Solar installation terms

Autoconsumo (Self-consumption)

The practice of consuming the electricity generated by your solar panels directly in your home, rather than importing it from the electrical grid.

Inversor (Inverter)

The hardware unit that converts the Direct Current (DC) electricity generated by your panels into Alternating Current (AC) electricity, which is used by your home appliances.

Batería Virtual (Virtual Battery)

A financial billing mechanism where your exported solar energy is converted into a euro cash balance to offset future bills.

CIE / Boletín (Electrical Certificate)

The official Spanish certificate signed by a licensed technician confirming that your electrical installation complies with safety regulations.

CUPS (Universal Supply Point Code)

The unique 20 or 22-character alphanumeric code identifying your property’s electricity supply connection. It always starts with “ES”.

Potencia Contratada (Contracted Power)

The maximum electrical capacity (in kW) you can draw from the grid simultaneously. You pay a fixed daily standing charge based on this value.

Compensación de Excedentes (Export Compensation)

The legal mechanism in Spain where electricity suppliers credit your monthly bill for the surplus solar energy you feed back into the grid.
